Completion of the project

The “Breakthrough LNG deployment in Inland Waterway Transport” project is approaching a successful end. Under the leadership of the EICB, the project consortium has deployed three LNG driven vessels and one LNG bunkering station. During the project, important insights were gathered about the design, installation, and use of LNG on board of inland vessels.

The performance of both the vessels and the bunkering station is tested over a period of six months. The first pilot test report of the vessel “De Werkendam” has now been published and can be found on the following web page: https://lngbinnenvaart.eu/downloads/. The last pilot period will be completed at the end of June 2020. All test reports, of both the vessels and the bunkering station, will be published on the project website in mid-2020.

E-learning

The project has also developed a number of short video modules that enable inland shipping companies in an accessible way to gain insight into the practical issues concerning the application of LNG in inland shipping. The modules cover four topics:

  • LNG shipbuilding
  • LNG technology
  • LNG bunkering
  • LNG on board

The video modules can be found on the following web page: https://lngbinnenvaart.eu/e-learning/
